FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a "Century Club"?
A Century Club is a group of 100+ guys giving $100 each time they meet to support organizations they are passionate about. In addition to giving real dollars to nonprofits, the Lakeland Century Club (LCC) will enjoy learning more about local nonprofits and as you meet other interesting, community-minded, folks.
What is LCC's mission?
We are on a mission to collect funds and support local nonprofits support through the POWER OF NUMBERS.
What is your #1 Rule?
All members are asked to sign up for the mailing list AND invite a new friend each time.
How does it work?
At the beginning of our in person meeting, members have the opportunity to drop their name in a hat at each meeting for a chance to present a charity of their choice. Three nonprofits will be drawn at random from the hat. Then the member who nominated the nonprofit has 3-5 minutes to advocate and ask for the votes. We listen about each charity, we then take a vote, then we each contribute $100 to the charity that received the most votes.
How can I join?
There is no formal membership. Simply join the mailing list, and show up. We ask that every new member commits to a year after their first meeting.
Who is invited to join?
At the end of the day, we are a group of guys who want to invest where we live. While we are a group of guys, we are open to anyone who wants to join us.
Why join the LCC?
1.) Support your community. 2.) Learn about local nonprofits. 3.) Meet others who love Lakeland and Polk County.
Do I have to bring a check?
While a paper check is preferred for keeping track of charitable contributions, you may also utilize our online giving tool powered by our friends at QGiv. All donation commitments must be filled within 24 hours of the quarterly meeting.
Is the LCC a nonprofit?
Nope. We are simply and voluntary club of individuals who enjoy making a real, local impact.
What kind of organizations do you support?
All organizations must be a 501c(3) and proceeds must go to Lakeland, Florida and Polk County.
We do not provide funds to political or politically associated campaigns or entities.
Do the nonprofits need to apply?
Nope. There is no application, grant, vetting, or selection outside of the nomination and majority vote process.
Are the donations anonymous?
Kind of. There is no fanfare or promotion done by LCC. The nonprofit may decide to publicize the donation as they see fit.
The funds will simply be dropped off by the member advocate with no expectation of return or recognition.
Will Lakeland Century Club require anything of the nonprofit?
The members may decide, from time to time, to request the funds to be applied to a specific need or cause within a nonprofit. But no, LCC will not require anything from the selected nonprofit.
